Renewal with the Wood Element

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
Robert Frost

Imagine yourself in this forest that inspired Robert Frost.  Look around, and what do you notice?  Freshness, growth, new life, and peace can all be found in an environment such as this.  The trees have vibrant green leaves, and the earth is rich brown soil.  The sun twinkles through the spaces between, and there you can see glimpses of the bright blue sky.  As you walk along your path of choosing, you can feel everything around you, including yourself, being nurtured by the sweet soul of nature.

Wood is the second element in the Feng Shui productive cycle.  Water feeds wood, and wood gives new life through growth.  This sense of renewal can also bring feeling of balance and symmetry.  The presence of the wood element in your home can give you a sense of establishment by being “well rooted”.  Wood can be represented by the obvious presence of the element, but also through symbolic colors or greens and blues.

K4880 Bamboo is an uncommon fabric to use in this setting, but has a substantial amount of durability and strength which is representative of the Wood element.  This fabric is comprised of 55% polyester and 45% olefin.  Polyester gives the fabric flexibility and softness, while

Olefin provides the durability.  You may be wondering, “What is olefin?”  Olefin is a synthetic fabric, much like polyester.  Olefin originates from metal fibers that are melted, twisted, and spun into a thread that can be used in a variety of ways.  Olefin is completely non-absorbent, and resistant to stains and mildew.  In addition, it can provide warmth without the weight of a heavier fabric.  Ultimately, when combined with polyester, the result is a super fabric that is heavy duty, stain and mildew resistant without additional chemicals, and versatile.

K3971 Spring Leaf and K3975 Azure Leaf are beautiful enhancements to a room in need of the wood element.  As mentioned previously, wood can be represented in greens or blues.  This microfiber fabric also has a subtle pattern of leaves that can represent the continuously life cycle with plants.  A microfiber provides softness and durability, perfect for the cozy couch to read some Robert Frost poetry.

A word of caution, too much wood can block the energy in your home through anger and frustration.  Wood can block your view, and cause you to become complacent.  Much like a beaver damn in a forest, wood can block the movement of water, which eventually will burst resulting in a destructive cycle.  Be mindful that the cycles can work in both directions, productive and destructive.  Looking ahead in the productive cycle, our next element to encounter is Fire.  Wood feeds fire, and fire is hot and powerful.  Prepare yourself for a sultry, mind tingling article that will leave you searching for the Fire in your home. imagesCAPBUOD3
