And we\u2019ve shared the unreasonable amount of joy we find in taking a treasured \u2014 read: super comfortable, favorite snuggly spot<\/em> \u2014 piece or pieces that are past their prime (oh hello there, 1980s!) and making them like new again. For just a fraction of the cost of new furniture.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And all with the simple aid of some beautiful new fabric (psst\u2026 we have a few of those<\/em>) fitted to taste on your old sitting pal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slipcovers are to furniture what a gorgeous cashmere sweater or new leather coat is to your favorite old shirt. Presto! Fresh and new outfit again! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So-So at Sewing?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Obviously, as proud as we\u2019re sure you\u2019ll be having refreshed your family\u2019s movie throne, we\u2019re equally sure that \u2014 as the resident DIY magician \u2014 you\u2019d prefer your guests not to be able to see behind the proverbial curtain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, particularly with the no-sew option, we recommend a heavier, less wrinkle-prone fabric. That way, you\u2019re less likely to see the ghost of the fabric seams past poking through. Once you\u2019ve chosen your fabric, you have options for how to go about making your slipcover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We love Robin Johnson\u2019s simple and smart approach. Following her step-by-step process<\/a> will work for most sofa styles and requires nothing but tucking and pinning. Quick and easy, you\u2019ll be done and back to chillin\u2019 on your \u201cnew\u201d sofa in minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some folks find a pitfall of no-sew slipcovers can be that sometimes the cover may… well… slip. You know this experience, too. Lounging on the couch, binging your favorite show, and ever so slowly, the cover slides off the cushions. Or you wake from an otherwise stellar Sunday nap to find your smooth sofa is a wrinkled, tangled mess. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
