Having your church pews upholstered can be quite a challenge, especially if the place of worship has a lot of seats. It can also be costly if professionals do this. However, if you can do it yourself, you can save a tremendous amount of money and time. You only need the suitable upholstery fabric<\/a> for church pews to get you started. Below are some tips I am sharing so you can quickly complete your task without any problems.

Measure the Church Pews<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before I buy my fabrics, I measure the church pews using a measuring tape. Ensure you evaluate the pews properly to avoid any mistakes in the long run. My first measurement is for the pew\u2019s foam lining. I measure the width and length of the back and front parts of the pew because this can help ensure a comfortable fit on the seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My second measurement is intended for the upholstery fabric to cover the foam. When I measure, I allow an additional six-inch allowance of the measurement to cover the pew completely. <\/p>\n\n\n

Attaching the Pew Fabric<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When stapling the pew fabric, I prefer to start at the back portion of the church pew because it is more convenient to slide directly into the pew foam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a clean and smooth look, I usually fold the fabric\u2019s hem under at least once before I tightly pull the fabric to create enough tension. The edges of the upholstery fabric for church pews are then stapled securely, about six inches apart. Do the whole process on the remaining pews, starting at the back portion of the pew. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pew foam is then secured into place, and I cover it with the fabric of my choice. I suggest you use an air-powered staple gun to keep the fabric in place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if you don\u2019t have one, a hand-held standard staple gun will do, although it can take a lot of time to complete your upholstering project fully. I suggest renting air-powered staple guns since local hardware shops and home improvement stores usually offer these.<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with the corners, I find this very tricky, although still manageable. I prefer to drape the upholstery fabric over the seat\u2019s corner before I cut a small slit just right above the corner portion of the wood. The side pieces are then tightly drawn together before I staple them into place. Then, I bring the front pieces tightly over the side portion before I secure them into place. Once my upholstery project is done, I vacuum the pews to remove stray threads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
