Even though they are close in nature to blue, aqua and teal contain their own set of design associations. Aqua is lively, freeing and creates a sense of uplifting openness. Teal adds a colorful burst that is both invigorating and has a sense of gravitas.
When it comes to using either shade, you’ll have to be careful not to overwhelm a space with them, since they both have such deep saturation. They both work as lovely accent walls or pops of color against light neutrals like gray, white and tan. A teal or aqua accent chair might work well. Another idea is to have a larger furniture piece in teal or aqua break up a mostly neutral colored room.
For using this color on walls, make sure to break it up with white ceilings, thick wood molding and lots of neutral furniture patterns, as in the photo above.
